Help fundraise to save our church spire.
An iconic part of the New Malden skyline since 1881, the United Reformed Church spire is in urgent need of repair.
Some 60 years ago it was thought to be a good idea to cover the stonework in concrete to protect it. This has proved fairly resilient until now, but cracks have allowed water to get in, and when this freezes, it can force the concrete off. This happened when a section of concrete fell onto the roof of the church.
The cost of the repairs is around £100,000, and the congregation is planning various events to raise money to save this important feature in New Malden. We have raised £71,000 so far. If you would like to contribute to our appeal, please contact us. The work was due to start in August 2020 but was delayed in order to find a suitable scaffold design. It is hoped that work will start in the Spring of 2021.
